Miguel Torres Loses To Demetrious Johnson At UFC 130

Miguel Torres Vs Demetrious Johnson proved to be an intriguing battle between ‘Mighty Mouse’s’ speed and wrestling and Torres length and active BJJ game from both on top and on his back.

Johnson was successful in taking down his considerably bigger opponent on numerous occasions throughout the fight, but it was former WEC champ Torres who looked busier even from his back.

Torres managed to sweep slickly or threaten with submissions including a triangle choke and fairly deep guillotine consistently, but he couldn’t find a way to stop Johnson who remained undeterred and continued to press forward.

And so after three competitive and entertaining rounds it was down to the judges who had a difficult task picking between the two opposing styles.

In the end it was Johnson’s top control that appeared to catch the judges eyes as they awarded him the fight unanimously (29-28 x3).

Personally I might have been tempted to give Torres the win based on him being more active offensively, but to be fair Johnson did have Octagon control for much of the fight, and judges have a knack of favoring the man on top regardless of what else might be going on.
