There was good news emerging from Strikeforce HQ today for a change. The promotion had been in a tough spot over the past few days after Valentijn Overeem pulled out of his main card fight with Antonio Silva with just a week left until the 4th of December show.
Getting a respectable opponent to step in at such short notice was always going to be tough, but credit to Strikeforce for securing the services of seasoned veteran Mike Kyle to step into the cage with ‘Bigfoot’ on Saturday night.
Kyle fought at light-heavyweight less than a month ago, improving his recent record to 6-1-1, but seems happy to return to heavyweight for a fight that could give his career a welcome boost if he is able to pull off the upset.
His last appearance for Strikeforce came back in July, again at 205lbs, defeating Abongo Humphrey on that occasion by a second round submission.
Meanwhile The 14-2 Silva last fought in May, defeating Andrei Arlovski by unanimous decision. Following that fight the Brazilian had been calling for a fight with another high profile like Fedor Emelianenko or Alistair Overeem.
Instead he’ll have to make to with a less glamorous opponent, but one that he certainly cannot afford to take lightly.
