On just six days notice Mike Massenzio finds himself propelled from the MMA wilderness into a preliminary bout with Krzystof Soszynksi at this weekend’s UFC 131 event.
Massenzio got the call after Soszynski’s previous opponent Igor Pokrajac pulled out injured. This will the Pole’s third opponent for the event after his original opponent Anthony Perosh was also forced to withdraw.
While the circumstances are far from ideal, Massenzio will no doubt simply be grateful to get a second bite at the UFC cherry having been cut from the promotion back in the summer of 2010 after earning just a single win in four Octagon bouts.
Massenzio has since got back to winning ways just two months ago with a TKO victory at a regional promotion in New Hampshire, and now has a chance to re-establish himself on the sports biggest stage.
It should be noted that if only having six days to prepare and stepping in against a tough opponent like Soszynski wasn’t enough, the 28 year-old will also make his light-heavyweight debut at the event.
