As we approach the last week in January it’s time to look ahead to what’s in store for the major MMA promotions next month.
As you would expect, Looming large on February’s calender is the UFC who have two major events planned.
The first is UFC 109: Relentless which takes place on Saturday 6th February in Las Vegas, headlined by 46 year old Randy Couture and 45 year old Mark Coleman. Two other veterans, Matt Serra and Frank Trigg also do battle at the event, while Nate Marquardt looks to cement his place as the No.1 contender in the middleweight division in the co-main event against Chael Sonnen.

Later in the month, the 20th of February to be exact, the promotion will take their show down under to Australia for UFC 110: Australia, headlined by what should be the most eagerly awaited bout of the month – Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Vs Cain Velasquez. The co-main event will also be intriguing as Wanderlei Silva takes his first fight at 185lbs against the UK’s Michael Bisping.

February is a quieter month for the other major promotions with the WEC not back until March and DREAM entering their traditional hibernation period during the early part of the year.
Strikeforce are keeping things ticking over however by announcing the sixth installment of their Strikeforce Challengers series which will take place on the 26th February.
Trevor Prangley finally makes his Strikeforce debut at the event after pulling out injured from his bout with Robbie Lawler In December. This time round he faces Karl Amoussou in the main event of the evening. Female fighters will also be under the spotlight as the highly regarded Sarah Kaufman takes on Takayo Hashi for the new 135lb woman’s title in the co-main event.
In many ways February is going to be the calm before the storm, as I’d expect that most, if not all of the majors will be in action in March. Bearing in mind that the UFC alone are aiming for three events in the space of 10 days during that month, things are going to get a little crazy as we head into the spring season.,
In the mean time, enjoy your free time while you’ve still got it and be sure to stay tuned to https://mmainsight.com for all the build-up, results and analysis for all the major events on the MMA calender.
