MTV Announce New MMA Themed Reality Show ‘Caged’

MTV have announced that they will launch a new MMA based reality show titled ‘Caged’ in 2012.

The show will follow the ups and downs of several young amateur mixed martial arts fighters from Louisiana both inside and outside of the cage.

The show will begin airing on January 9th via MTV, and in May for international viewers.

It’s not the first time MTV has dabbled in the world of MMA. Bellator has been airing weekly events live on MTV2 this year while there’s been three seasons of ‘Bully Beatdown’ hosted by UFC star Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller, and not forgetting an episode of ‘The World Of Jenks’ series which profiled UFC fighter Anthony Pettis in the lead up to a fight in the WEC.

It’ll be interesting to see how this show goes. Ideally it would be an insightful look into the struggle and sacrifices of up and coming fighters, but given that MTV’s biggest hit of late has been the trashy ‘Jersey Shore’ series there’s plenty of reason to keep expectations low here.
