After a big win over Jim Miller in the main event of last night’s UFC On FOX 3 event Nate Diaz appears to have sealed his shot at the lightweight title.

That was the news according to UFC president Dana White post-fight after he spoke with the winner of the ‘Submission Of The Night’ award backstage.

“He’s going to wait for the title shot,” White told the media at the post-fight press conference. “I said if he won, if he wanted to fight Pettis, he could fight Pettis. If he wanted to wait, he could wait. He’s going to wait.”

By waiting, White means that he’ll avoid another fight until Ben Henderson Vs Frankie Edgar 2 takes place in August, possibly at UFC 150. He’ll then go on to fight the winner for the title before the end of the year.

Diaz then suggested he would have fought Pettis if that’s what the UFC had wanted, but he’s happy with how things have turned out.

“I’m down for whatever, whatever they say, but that sounded great to me,” Diaz stated.

As for Pettis, White admits he’s still to figure out who he’ll face next now that he’s missing out on a shot at the title.
