In UFC Fight Night 22’s headline bout Nate Marquardt earned a quick TKO victory over Rousimar Palhares, but there was some controversy.

The fight had started in tentative fashion with both men feeling each other out, but mid-way through the round the fight hit the deck and Palhares gained top control. From their he immediately moved for his favored leg lock submission hold, but Marquardt slipped out easily.

Palhares then appeared to say something to the referee as he lay on his back which proved to be his undoing as Marquardt pounced and began raining down blows as his opponent could do little more than cover up until the referee stopped the bout.

Afterwards it emerged that Palhares was complaining that Marquardt’s legs were slippery which is why he stopped fighting momentarily. During his post-fight interview however Joe Rogan stated that Marquardt had been checked by officials after the bout and they saw no problem.

So Marquardt gets right back on track in the middleweight division and gets past a very tricky opponent in Palhares.

Marquardt is now 30-9-2 in his MMA career, while Palhares picks up his third career loss to go 11-3.
