Saturday’s UFC 111 event features the interim heavyweight title bout between Frank Mir and Shane Carwin.
Whoever wins will then go on to face Brock Lesnar in the summer, and speaking with ESPN today the fighter was keen to remind people that the interim belt means nothing in the grand scheme of things.
“That was a business decision that the UFC had to make. Really that belt is a make-believe belt to satisfy the company and to satisfy the people in the heavyweight division. I’m still the heavyweight champion.”
Lesnar also laughed of Frank Mir’s comment that his current opponent Shane Carwin is a better version of the current champion.
“If Shane Carwin is a better version of Brock Lesnar then the fight’s over within the first thirty seconds,” the former wrestling star quipped. “I feel bad for Frank you know, Frank has a history of putting his foot in his mouth, and let’s just see what happens on Saturday night.”
