One of the stars walking the red carpet prior to the UFC’s big debut on FOX last night was female MMA superstar turned movie actress Gina Carano.
Carano has been hidden away from the MMA media spotlight for some time so despite her fame it’s rare to see her being interviewed, but MMAHeat’s Karyn Bryant managed to get an interview with her.
Keynotes and the full video for you below.
– Carano says her starring role in the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster ‘Haywire’ was an amazing experience and something that she’ll treasure for the rest of her life no matter what happens next.
She admits to being shy and reveals that she gets nervous even doing interviews, but that in the movie it was easier as the big name actors she worked with took her under their wing.
Carano was particularly complimentary about co-star Ewan McGregor who she describes as “by far one of my most favorite human beings on this planet.”
She also praises director Steven Soderbergh for being able to stay artistic and true to himself yet still be mainstream.
– Moving on to fighting, and Carano is planning to return to the cage, just not right away. She describes herself as a “one step at a time type girl” so she just wants to do the media circuit for ‘Haywire’ which comes out in January and then she’ll be able to focus on fighting after that.
– Carano won’t reveal the medical reason that kept her from fighting for Strikeforce in June, but went asked directly if it was because she was pregnant she laughs that off, stating “No! None of that, thank God!”
– Though she’s been out of the spotlight Carano has been keeping her eye on the woman coming up in the sport and is impressed with the level of talent that’s around now. She gives special mention to Holly Holm, Julia Budd and Rhonda Rousey.
Carano doesn’t want to come back and steal the limelight away from them, she just wants to be a part of the sport again.
