UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida is currently making final preparations for his upcoming fight with Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua at UFC 113 this Saturday. Just two days later on May 10th his new book, ‘Machida Karate-Do Mixed Martial Arts Techniques’ is released in stores.

The 276 page book, co-authored with Erich Krauss and Glen Cordoza, takes a detailed look at Machida’s unique style, which has adapted some of the fundamental principles of Karate and refined them for modern mixed martial arts competition. All aspects of his game are covered, including his stance, movement and combinations, along with the ground fighting techniques.

This style has proven very effective in his career to date, taking him on a 16 fight unbeaten run and claiming the UFC LHW title which has helped to reinvigorate the Karate movement.

The book is published by Victory Belt who have cornered the market in MMA instructionals with the likes of BJ Penn, Anderson Silva, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fedor Emelianenko also releasing acclaimed books and DVD’s based on their fighting styles.

Machida’s latest offering comes off the back of a previous DVD release which came out last year. Both are available to order now from Amazon.com.

  1. Yeah, it should be good Michael. I’ve seen Machida’s DVD set which teaches the same techniques and it’s really good so I’d expect the book to be the same. I’ve bought a good few MMA technique books over the years and the Victory Belt one’s are generally a cut above the rest.
