New Opponents For Junior Dos Santos And Patrick Cote

Since his first round demolition of Gilbert Yvel there’s been an increased buzz around Brazilian heavyweight Junior Dos Santos.

Unfortunately for Dos Santos, currently four fights undefeated in the UFC, his chances of facing a top contender have been blocked due to bouts such as Frank Mir Vs Shane Carwin and Big Nog Vs Cain Velasquez have already been announced.

As we predicted after UFC 108, the UFC have announced that Dos Santos is now set to face his fellow Brazilian Gabriel Gonzaga, who he was originally supposed to fight in January before injury forced the bout to be scrapped.

The heavyweight showdown will now take place as the co-main event at Ultimate Fight Night 21 which will be the UFC’s first live event on Versus.  The promotion is clearly pulling out all the stops for the network,  with Brandon Vera Vs Jon Jones already announced for the event, and Sean Sherk Vs Clay Guida also expected on the main card.

Meanwhile, after over a year on the sidelines since injuring his knee in his middleweight title fight at UFC 90, Patrick Cote is set to make his return to the octagon, and according to topmmanews Alan Belcher will be his opponent.

Cote had put together a five fight unbeaten run in the UFC prior to earning his title shot and will now hope to make up for lost time by putting together a new string of victories, starting with Belcher.

Of course Belcher will have other ideas, and after notching up his second ‘Fight Of The Night’ award in a row over in his win over Wilson Gouveia, he will be hoping that a win over Cote will put him in the mix in the top end of the 185lb division.
