Nick Diaz And Marius Zaromskis Set For Welterweight Title Fight

The vacant Strikeforce welterweight belt seems set to find a new owner in January when Nick Diaz takes on Marius Zaromskis.

The news comes from mmaweekly who report that the the bout  is expected to be announced as the headline bout at Strikeforce: Miami on January 30th, which will also feature the return of woman’s champion Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos and the MMA debut of Herschel Walker.

Diaz is currently two fights unbeaten in the promotion, having previously defeated Frank Shamrock and Scott Smith.    The controversial fighter had originally been expected to face Jay Heiron for the title In October, but after he failed to attend a pre-fight drugs test the bout to be scrapped.

Zaromskis will fight for the title in his Strikeforce debut after making a major impact in the DREAM promotion this year, becoming their first welterweight grand prix champion.

If this fight does indeed go ahead then it will certainly be an entertaining spectacle.  Zaromskis is known for his spectacular head kick knockouts that have many comparing him to legendary Pride competitor Mirko Cro Cop.

That will be a useful weapon against Diaz who’s unorthadox ‘pawing’ jab could leave him vurnerable to such attacks.  On the other hand Diaz will hold a clear advantage should this fight go to the ground.

According to mmaweekly the title fight will be officially revealed at tonight’s Strikeforce: Evolution event.
