Ahead of Nick Diaz return to the UFC in the headline attraction of this weekend’s UFC 137 event Nick Diaz spoke with HDNet’s Inside MMA show about his upcoming fight.

During the interview it becomes clear that he’s worried more about his state of mind heading into this fight rather than his legendary opponents skills.

Firstly Diaz says that the fact that his biggest obstacle could be the fact that Penn is someone he has a lot of respect for.

“I don’t look up to a lot of guys, but I’ve looked up to B.J. Penn for a long time,” Diaz admits. “But he came from my school. You understand; he came from my academy.”

The former Strikeforce welterweight champion also reveals that his own attitude could lead to his downfall.

“It could maybe come down to who wants it more, and at this moment in time that might be my biggest issue, you know? Cos, I’ve been doing this for a while and I don’t really need this, you know what I mean? I really don’t, but i’m here, I’m a fighter, I never back down from a fight.”
