Nick Diaz may have settled his score with KJ Noons last night at Strikeforce: San Jose, but it seems that backstage his rivalry with Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller was intensifying.

According to MMAjunkie, the two fighters caught sight of each other backstage after Diaz’s victory over Noons and the Stockton native threw a bottle of water at the star of MTV’s ‘Bully Beatdown.’

Security quickly intervened, but it adds more fuel to the fire for a fight between the two.

Their feud began at Strikeforce: Nashville back in April when Mayhem entered the cage following Diaz team-mate Jake Shields win over Dan Henderson to challenge him to rematch.

A mini-riot then broke out with Mayhem and Diaz at the center of it.  Since then Mayhem has been campaigning for a fight with the welterweight champion either at a catchweight or 185lbs, even taunting his rival with a t-shirt stating his own catchphrase, “Don’t be scared homie!”

According to MMAjunkie Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker was surprised to hear of the altercation but wasn’t against the two men settling their differences in the cage.

“That would be a great fight to promote,” Coker said. “It’s not hard to promote that fight. But we’ll see if they really want to do fight in the cage. It’s one thing to have them bump in to each other in the hallway and call each other names. But if they really want to fight in the cage, if anybody can put it together, we can put it together.”

As I said in an article after last night’s event Diaz Vs Mayhem should be Strikeforce’s next move given the heat surrounding the two hot-headed fighters, and news of their clash backstage only adds more weight to that argument.
