A rumored fight between Nick Diaz and Hayato ‘Mach’ Sakurai has today been confirmed by the Graciefighter website, and it will take place under the DREAM banner.

The bout has materialized thanks to the continued co-operation between the Strikeforce and DREAM promotions, and sees current Strikeforce welterweight champion Diaz travel to Japan to face the legendary Sakurai in an upcoming DREAM event scheduled for May 29th.

In January Diaz defeated another DREAM fighter Marius Zaromskis at Strikeforce: Miami to notch up his sixth victory in a row, and will now return to the Japanese promotion for the first time since picking up a win over Katsuya Inoue at DREAM 3 in 2008.

Meanwhile 34 year old veteran Sakurai is on a two-fight losing streak to Zaromskis and Akihiro Gono heading into this fight, though he did defeat Shinya Aoki prior to that in ’09.
