Strikeforce today officially confirmed that welterweight champion Nick Diaz will be fighting KJ Noons in a long awaited rematch at Strikeforce: San Jose on October 9th.
Bad blood has existed between the two since their time in the Elite XC promotion where Noons defeated Diaz due to a cut at the end of the first round.
After another Noons fight months later Diaz entered the cage to be hype up a potential rematch between the two. A brawl quickly broke out in which Nick and his brother Nate exchanged insults and traded punches with Noons and his father along with several other corner men.
Since the defeat in 2007 Diaz has gone on a seven fight winning streak, while Noons took an extended break from MMA after Elite XC, but has come back strongly in 2010 with three wins, extending his unbeaten run to six fights.
One man who will be disappointed to hear this fight being confirmed is sure to be Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller who spent time at last weekend’s Strikeforce: Houston event trying to drum up interest in potential fight with Diaz. Ironically he too has developed a rivalry with the controversial champion after a brawl in the cage in Nashville earlier this year.
Strikeforce: San Jose will also play host to a woman’s 135lb title fight between Sarah Kaufman and Marloes Coenen, plus Luke Rockhold takes on Matt Lindland.
