Nick Newell has been campaigning hard to be given a chance to compete in the UFC, and he’s just got one step closer to achieving that dream after being granted an opportunity to fight on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.
The 32-year-old Newell is a congenital amputee who was born without the lower half of his left arm, but that hasn’t stopped him from making a notable impact in MMA, fighting for the likes of WSOF and LFA.
Along the way he’s managed to compile an impressive 14-1 record, with nine of his victories coming by way of submission, while his only loss has been by TKO in a WSOF lightweight title fight against Justin Gaethje.
“I want to thank Dana White, Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard for believing in me and giving me a shot,” Newell told MMAFighting.com after his DWTNCS opportunity was announced. “I still have to go out there and deliver. I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
The next season of the show, which features prospects fighting each other to try to win a spot in the UFC, will take place sometime in June and is expected to once again air on the UFC’s own Fight Pass subscription service.
