Phil Davis was originally slated to fight Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal in the Bellator 142: Dynamite! one-night tournament final, but a late injury call-off meant that alternate Francis Carmont stepped in to face him instead and ‘Mr Wonderful’ made short work of him with a first round KO finish.
Round One:
‘King Mo’ unfortunately out, alternate Francis Carmont in for the tournament final.
Carmont lands an early kick. Now a snapping body kick. Davis comes up short with a couple of punches and Carmont lands another kick.
Davis with a kick. Another hard kick to the midsection from Davis. Chopping kick across the legs from Carmont.
Crowd booing at the relative lack of action. Then out of the blue Davis gives everyone something to cheer about as he lands a winging left hook and it drops Carmont close to the cage.
Davis follows him to the mat and lands some hard ground and pound blows which seals the deal, handing him a KO victory at 2.15mins of the very first round.
That marks Davis’ first ever knockout victory and not only crowns him the tournament winner, but also books him a title fight with the winner of tonight’s Bellator main event at some stage in the future. Impressive performances tonight from Bellator’s new signing.
