After Matt Hamill was moved from UFC 129 to UFC 130 to replace Thiago Silva against Quinton Jackson recently, Phil Davis suddenly found himself without an opponent for the April 30th event.
The UFC have now moved to shore up that gap however, and Davis now has a new opponent in Jason Brilz for the Toronto event which is set to play host to a record-breaking 55,000 fans.
It’s a less established opponent for Davis, who’s been on a tear since joining the UFC, racking up four straight wins in 2010, but he can’t afford to take Brilz lightly.
The 35 year-old Brilz showed his ability to rise to the big occasion when he took on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 114 last year, and almost produced a major upset when he took the fight to the judges scorecards and only lost by the narrowest of split decisions.
It’s not yet been confirmed if this bout will still feature on the main card as Davis original fight with Hamill was intended to.
