The UFC have this week acquired the services of one of the sports most highly regarded up and coming prospects, Phil Davis.
The 24 year old is a 4 time collegiate All-American wrestler with an NCAA National championship at 197lbs to his name. Spotting his potential, the UFC have signed him up despite the fact that he is just 4-0 in his mixed martial arts career to date at light heavyweight.
“We signed him yesterday to a UFC contract and we expect to have a date for his first fight soon,” his manager told mma.fanhouse.
Known as “Mr Wonderful”, the 6ft 2″ fighter likens himself to Mo “King Mo” Lawal, another highly regarded wrestler turned mixed martial artist who recently signed for Strikeforce.
Speaking to sherdog.com, Davis stated, “It means a lot just to be on the biggest stage in mixed martial arts, to be with a great company. It’s a great place for me to start my career.”
Meanwhile welterweight contender Kevin Burns is the latest fighter to be cut from the UFC’s roster after he lost to TJ Grant at UFC 107. It was his 3rd loss in a row for the promotion, taking his overall record to 7-4.
