For anybody who’s watched Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua’s impressive career in MMA, tonight’s one-sided beatdown at the hands of the new UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones will have come as something of a shock.

The Brazilian has fought and beaten some of the best the sport has to offer, including Alistair Overeem, Lyoto Machida and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, but never has he been dominated and man-handled like this.

During the three rounds of fighting Shogun endured almost every strike in the book, including head kicks, muay thai knees, spinning elbows, straight punches and even a liver shot which crumpled him to the mat at the end of the fight.

All of which clearly took it’s toll, and a slow motion replay shows that as the referee stepped in to stop the fight, Shogun was in fact tapping out.

The extent of the damage can be seen in the picture below taken after the fight ended.

  1. Yes Jones killed shogun and yes shogun looked beat before the fight started but jones can be beat and I think Evans will be the one to do it because he knows him and he’s not scared of him and he’s fast and a good counter puncher. I believe that Machida could beat him even though Shogun beat him but it will take a good counter puncher with balls and no fear to do this and Evans will do it and he’s a damn good wrestler to. To even put Jones on Andersons level is a joke to me,sure he’s damn good but he’s only been at it 3 years and he reached this level way to fast and we will all see that when he fights Evans.

  2. One more thing,if you watched this fight then you seen Shogun not even fighting his fight, from the opening bell he looked scared and beat already and Jones was just standing in front of him and he didn’t look like he knew what he was doing but he won that fight before he even entered the cage. Let’s see him do all that crazy spinning shit at Evans,Machida,Silva or any good fighter that can counter, even the Randy Coulture that beat Liddel,Tito and all the rest would beat Jones with his dirty boxing and wrestling. I’m just saying people watch and see when he gets beat he will be dominated and it want even be a close fight because all that Crazy shit he throws want work long, somebody will have him figured out quick.

  3. jon jones is on another level, if he throws you down which is impossiable to dodge for long… he will beat the sh*t out of you with his long arms/elbos…Machida is the only guy who can beat jon jones, or maby anderson silva but andersons takedown defense sucks d*ck. Machida even throws anderson down with eaz in spairing you can see on youtube. I can just see machida moving around confuesing jon jones then jon jones throws a crazy elbo machida then counters with a perfect straight right and submits jones on the ground
