Poll Results: Which UFC Fighter Should Earn The Most Money?

Last week we published The Top 12 UFC Fighter Salaries Of 2009.  Along with the article we gave you the chance to vote for who you thought should be earning the most money in the UFC.

In the end it was the two men who are widely considered to be the top pound for pound fighters in the promotion who emerged as the clear winners.

In first place 34% of you voted current middleweight champion Anderson Silva as the man deserving of a bumper payday from the UFC.  It’s hard to argue when you consider he has went 10 fights unbeaten (a record in the UFC), and is skilled a striker as has ever stepped into the octagon.  Despite that he hasn’t yet become a major Pay Per View draw.

In second place with 30% of the vote was Georges St.Pierre, the current welterweight champion, and one of the sports most popular fighters.  As well as being a talented fighter GSP has proven himself to be a PPV hit, with his recent fights against BJ Penn and Thiago Alves both generating over 1 million buys.

Speaking of BJ Penn, the dominant lightweight champion would be classified by many people as the third pound for pound great currently fighting in the UFC, but with 10% of the vote he was edged out to fourth spot on the poll.

Instead, the man claiming the third spot with 14% of the vote was the current heavyweight champion and Pay Per View monster that is Brock Lesnar.  While he may not have the highly developed skills of the three other fighters mentioned above, his size, athleticism and wrestling background have helped to make Lesnar the biggest draw in mixed martial arts.

The only champion not mentioned yet is Lyoto Machida.  The judging controversy that followed his victory in a closely contested match with Shogun Rua may have something to do with why only 3% of you voted for him.

Despite being considered two of the most famous fighters ever to compete in MMA, Randy Couture (3%) and Chuck Liddell (1%) were largely overlooked in the poll.

As always thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to participate in this week’s poll where we are asking you to vote for which UFC fighter you think can maintain their winning streak for the longest.
