In a recent poll we asked readers which of the UFC fighters listed in our current winning streaks article would maintain their unbeaten run the longest .  Here’s the results of your votes.

It’s not surprising that two of the UFC’s most dominant and talented champions, Anderson Silva and Georges St.Pierre, were strongly favored in this poll, snapping up a whopping 87% of the vote between them.

Claiming the top spot was Silva with 46%, while GSP was close behind with 41%.  Personally I think the biggest threat to Silva’s unbeaten run may come in his next fight against Vitor Belfort.   On the other hand I’m more confident that GSP will win against Dan Hardy.

If they both successfully get past their next opponents then  I suspect that GSP may have the tougher task on his hands to keep his winning run going, purely because it looks like his longer term future may lie at middleweight, where he is at present an unknown quantity.

If he does prove to be as successful at 185lb however, then it would surely only be a matter of time before he faced Silva himself which would be a massive fight for the sport, and would bring an end to one of these pound-for-pound greats unbeaten runs.

Another champion who featured on the poll, Lyoto Machida, didn’t inspire the same level of confidence in our readers, with just 10% of you believing he has what it takes to produce the longest winning streak in the UFC.

That was to be expected though, with his eagerly anticipated rematch with Shogun Rua looming on the horizon.  Perhaps if he claims a convincing victory this time round then people will begin to believe in the idea of  ‘The Machida Era’ again.

The only other fighter to gain any kind of traction on the poll was Junior Dos Santos, though he earned just 3% of the vote.  The Brazilian has been an explosive force in the heavyweight division so far, but despite facing some skilled opponents his toughest challenges still lie ahead.

As I mentioned in a recent article, I’d like to see more of his ground game before making too many predictions about his longer term future.

The other fighters on the poll – Dan Hardy, Gray Maynard, Cain Velasquez, Terry Etim and Georges Sotiropoulos all failed to gain any real backing from readers, with each gaining just 1% of the vote.

Thanks as always to everyone who voted!
