The UK mixed martial arts scene is currently receiving a boost internationally with stars such as Michael Bisping, Dan Hardy and Paul Daley all making a significant impact in the UFC, while up and coming stars like Ross Pearson and James Wilks have recently made the breakthrough to the top promotion via The Ultimate Fighter reality show.

The trend looks set to continue as the major promotions continue to strengthen their rosters and bring in talent from further afield to help broaden the sports appeal worldwide. The latest UK fighter to make the jump to the big leagues is 31 year old Brad ‘One Punch’ Pickett who has just signed with WEC, according to Fighters Only Magazine.

The entertaining 31 year old fighter made his name in the sport via the now defunct Cage Rage promotion in the UK, and has built a record of 17-4 in his five year stint as a professional MMA fighter. He is currently on a seven fight win streak since his loss to recent DREAM featherweight Grand Prix finalist Hideo Tokoro at K-1 Dynamite!! USA back in 2007.

Speaking to Fighters Only about the signing, WEC general manager Reed Harris said, “He is going to be fight at 135lbs, and I think at bantamweight he is going to be very, very dangerous. I am excited about bringing him in, I really am.”

Continuing to hint that the promotion will be visiting the UK’s shores at some stage in the future, Harris stated, “I would love to come over to the UK and Europe to do a show. We have watched the UFC as they have entered the UK and they are doing very, very well, there has been a great response from the British public.”

Brad Pickett is undoubtedly a colorful character who will be a good addition to the WEC roster both in and out of the cage, though he will have to be at his best to keep up with the level of competition he will be facing in the promotion.
