Randy Couture was at UFC 113 this past weekend to watch the light-heavyweight title fight between Shogun Rua and Lyoto Machida with an eye towards potentially fighting the winner at some stage in the near future.
Before that though the 46 year old is set to face off against boxing champion James Toney in his MMA debut.
“It’s not official yet but we’re getting real close to signing [to fight] James Toney, UFC 118 in Boston,” he told mmafighting’s Ariel Helwani while octagon-side at Saturday night event.
August 28th is the date for that show and if the fight does take place it’s one that Couture would look forward to.
“He’s been running his mouth saying he’s going to knock everyone out…I’d be happy to welcome him to MMA. I think it’s a great crossover fight. You know, since I’ve been in this sport for 13 years, everybody has been comparing us to boxers, so to have a world-class boxer finally step up and sign on the bottom line is a big deal.”
‘The Natural’ isn’t planning on standing with the fighter who goes by the nickname ‘Lights Out’ though.
“I’m not going to stand and bang with him, that would be stupid, but one second, come on give me a break. I can stand with him as long as I need to stand with him to put him where I need to put him to beat him up, to beat his ass.”
