There was a great deal of disappointment yesterday when it was revealed that Jon Jones has pulled out of his title fight with Rashad Evans due to a hand injury.

One person who’s taking it all in his stride however is Evans, despite the fact that it means he now faces another tough fight before he can finally get his long-awaited title shot.

“I’m looking forward to fighting Phil Davis August 6th at UFC 133, he’s a strong wrestler and a rising star in the light heavyweight division,” said Evans in a statement released by his management.

That doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about his originally scheduled fight with his former team-mate though.

“I wish Jon Jones a speedy recovery, he has something that belongs to me and when he’s ready, I’ll be waiting,” Evans promised.

All in all it’s been a strange year for Evans. His last fight in the Octagon was almost a year ago when he defeated Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson. He then chose to sit and wait for a title shot against Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua while the champion underwent surgery and a lengthy layoff to get back to 100%, rather than get another fight under his belt in the mean time.

Ironically he then fell victim to an injury himself prior to their eventual fight, watched his team-mate win the title, and now has to take another fight anyway due to Jones injury.

It’s certainly not the way he had envisaged things playing out, but there’s no use crying over spilled milk, and it appears he’s now just relishing the opportunity to get back into the Octagon and fight regardless of the opposition or title implications.
