With Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson claiming to be retired Rashad Evans is suddenly without an opponent and is currently re-evaluating his options. Rumor has it that Evans (13-1) had recently turned down a fight with Randy Couture at UFC 105 ( a challenge that Brandon Vera has now accepted), preferring instead to wait for his opportunity to face Jackson. With that fight no longer an option Evans has revealed that he’s now turned his attention to Thiago Silva (14-1).
It would appear that the former Ultimate Fighter winner has revenge on his mind as Silva was recently victorious against Evan’s team-mate and close friend Keith Jardine at UFC 102. Speaking to mma.fanhouse the Evans described an encounter with the Brazilian at the event – “When I saw him after he fought Keith Jardine, he kind of gave me a nasty look that I interpreted like he wanted to take me on, and I’d like that.”
Ironically both fighters hold only one career apiece, at the hands of the same man – current Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. A potential fight between Evans and Silva would certainly be an intriguing encounter with both being dangerous strikers, whilst Evan’s advantage in wrestling is countered by Silva’s superiority in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
There’s no official confirmation of this fight from the UFC yet but a match-up towards the end of the year would now seem likely.
