Recent reports suggest that former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez could be set for a return to the promotion in 2011.
According to 5ozOfPain, talks are underway about a three fight deal for the 33 year-old worth six figures.
Rodriguez briefly held the belt back in 2002 by defeating Randy Couture at UFC 39, but lost it again in his first title defence against Tim Sylvia at UFC 41 a few months later.
The Brazilian had just one more fight in the UFC, a loss to fellow countryman Pedro Rizzo at UFC 45 in 2003 and hasn’t fought in the octagon since.
Since then he has been very much a fighting mercenary, competing multiple times a year for a laundry list of promotions, compiling a career record of 45-11 along the way.
At one stage his weight ballooned up to well over 300lbs, but in more recent times he’s fought successfully to get it back under control and had recently been making noises about coming back to the big time in the UFC.
Now 215lbs Rodriguez had been aiming to compete at light-heavyweight, but it’s believed the UFC has plans for him at heavyweight instead.
