A major new fight has been added to August 6th’s UFC 133 event with Rich Franklin set to take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
It’s a good bit of matchmaking which sees two veterans battling it out in a bid to claim a much needed win in the light-heavyweight division.
Franklin has fought a string of big name fighters one after another over the last couple of years and it’s resulted in a patchy 2-3 record over that period. Therefore if the 36 year-old wants to get back into contention at 205lbs a win over Lil Nog is a must.
Meanwhile the 34 year-old Nogueira is also struggling to find form having lost his last two fights, taking much of the momentum out of his first two wins in the UFC which had earned him both a ‘Knockout Of The Night’ and ‘Fight Of The Night’ award.
Stylistically this is a nicely balanced match-up with both men possessing good stand-up, while on the mat Lil Nog has the slicker BJJ skills, but will find it tough to submit his crafty opponent who’ll more than likely be looking to use movement and footwork to keep this fight standing.
While not confirmed yet this bout is certain to be either the main or co-main event of the UFC 133 show.
