A major light-heavyweight bout between UFC favorites Rich Franklin and Forrest Griffin is in the works for UFC 127 on February 5th.

The Super Bowl weekend fight was first reported by MMAFighting, who state that the bout is not official yet but that various sources confirm that it is likely to go ahead.

A fight between the former middleweight and former light-heavyweight champion has been rumored for some time – on this site we suggested that it was the likely course of events immediately following Franklin’s win over Chuck Liddell back at UFC 115 in June.

It’s taken quite some time for the bout to be put together though due to both fighters requiring time out due to injury with Franklin breaking his arm during his win over Liddell, while Griffin has spent the best part of the year out with a shoulder injury.

Now both men will see this fight as a significant step towards a title shot and with both being popular with the fans this should be an eagerly awaited contest.

UFC 127 now looks to be another very significant event for the promotion, with Anderson Silva Vs Vitor Belfort’s middleweight title fight set to headline.  It’s possible that Jon ‘Bones’ Jones Vs Ryan Bader could also fall on that date.

If that’s the case then it would already be shaping up to be one of their most stacked cards in recent times.
