*Spoiler ahead* At the end of last night’s 10th episode of The Ultimate Fighter Season 11 Rich Franklin was confirmed as Tito Ortiz replacement as coach for the remainder of the show. Of course that was something that we already knew with Chuck Liddell Vs Rich Franklin being announced several weeks ago as the main event of June 12th’s UFC 115 event.
There was a further twist to come though as Dana White told the members of Franklin’s team at the end of the show that he had “overcompensated” for Ortiz and his coaches departure by bringing in some special assistant coaches including a former champion to help train them.
So who are these new coaches? The show ended on that cliffhanger, but UFC.com revealed the answer after the program aired.
“Former UFC middleweight champion and TUF2 coach Rich Franklin (who will face Liddell at UFC 115 on June 12th) and assistant coaches Forrest Griffin, Gray Maynard, and Tyson Griffin.”
Not too shabby I’m sure you’ll agree, and somewhat ironic to see Griffin in particular stepping in as a replacement after the departure of Ortiz who he defeated only months earlier. The former champion had already made a brief cameo earlier in the season when he turned up unexpectedly at the TUF house to let the fighters play a demo of the new UFC Undisputed 2010 game.
Of course there was only approximately a week of filming left when the new dream team arrived, but still it’s sure to have lifted their spirits after the disappointment of Ortiz leaving.
