Rob Font dominanted Sergio Pettis tonight at UFC On FOX 31, with a pinpoint accurate jab being his best weapon as he fought his way to a unanimous decision victory.
Round One:
Font landing the jab repeatedly early. Leg kick for Pettis. Right hands exchanged. Now Font targets the body twice. More jabs land.
Leg kick and a short flurry of punches to the head from Font. Solid jab again for Font. Pettis throwing his jab now as well. he goes for an inside leg kick as well.
Font with an uppercut. Body kick for Pettis and a body punch in return from Font. Two jabs and a right hand from Font. Font starting to press forward now, but Pettis clips him with a jab.
Font still coming forward though and putting more punches together, with that jab being his best weapon so far. Font to the body and Pettis lands a right hand.
One-two for Font. Body punch for him, leg kick for Pettis. Font goes for a takedown and lands it easily. Font trying to pass to side control, but Pettis does well to stop it.
FOnt stands over him and then drops down with a punch. Upkicks from Pettis as he looks to keep him at bay. More punches on his feet to his grounded opponent from Font.
Pettis able to stand with his leg still being held by Font, and then he throw a spinning kick afterwards. Font grins at him as they go back to striking to end the round.
Round two:
Right hand for Font and a kick from Pettis. Jab for Pettis. Leg kick for Font. Big punches from Font and one of those landed hard.
Font in on a takedown against the cage, but Pettis counters with a choke attempt and breaks free.
The jab landing again for Font and Pettis’ right eye is increasingly bloodied up. Kick upstairs from Pettis. Hard leg kick from Font.
Jab snapping Pettis’ head back. Body punch from Font. Punch to the head and then one to the body now. Pettis not really finding his range for the most part here.
Leg kick for Font. Pettis with one now. Head kick attempt from Pettis as Font ducked down. jab and a right hand lands for Pettis.
Font seems to never miss with this jab tonight. Kick to the arm from Pettis. Now on overhand right. Front kick attempt misses, but then a hook and a right hand behind it.
Font clinches up and tries to bring Pettis to the mat, but Pettis scrambles and ends up on top. Font going for a kimura from his back and sweeps on top looking to finish it. Pettis escapes, but Font is on top as the round ends.
Round Three:
Jab and a body kick for Font. Multiple jabs landing now. knee to the body from Font. Jabs for Pettis and a right hand behind it.
jab for Font and a leg kick in return from Pettis. Right hand gets through for Pettis. Body kick for Font. Another front kick to the body.
jab and a leg kick for Font. Spinning kick attack from Pettis, but nothing doing. Couple of right hands for Pettis get through, but then Font lands a hard punch that knocks out Pettis’ mouthpiece.
Font gets the fight to the mat and at that stage the referee stops momentarily to allow Pettis to put his mouthpiece back in.
Font working from on top now with ground and pound. Pettis scrambles to his knees with Font on his back. Font making him work for this. Pettis does stand, but with his opponent still heavy on him.
Font drags him back down. Only a minute left. Pettis eventually tries to scramble again and Font ends up on top with Pettis on his back.
Font standing over him looking to land some final blows. Font rolls for a choke, but Pettis is immediately out and that’s how the round ends.
Decision:
Convincing win for Font then, earning a cleansweep on the scorecards for the unanimous decision victory (30-27 x3).
