After coming up short in his bid to displace Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza from the top of the Strikeforce middleweight division on Saturday night, a disappointed Robbie Lawler reflected on the fight.

A 10 year veteran of the sport, Lawler was left baffled by his performance in the cage.

“My energy level was super low…it’s the weirdest thing,” Lawler says in an interview with MMAPrime.TV’s Aaron Tru.

Lawler has never been known as a slick grappler, but he pulled off some technical escapes against BJJ master ‘Jacare’ during the fight. That wasn’t enough to console him though.

“I work on all my skills and I showed a little bit of what I can do, but I ended up getting submitted anyway,” he shrugged.

After missing out on the belt it seems the 28 year-old will now look to get some distance between himself and the fight before deciding what comes next.

“I dunno, I’m gonna take like a month off. I’m frickin’, I’m still tired, it’s the weirdest thing. Who knows. I’m going to need to recover, relax, rest my body and come back strong again.”
