Two UFC light-heavyweight fighters currently anxious to get back into the Octagon in the near future are Ryan Bader and Stephan Bonnar.
At present the two 205’ers don’t have a fight lined up, and when asked who they’d like to face next, their answers were remarkably similar.
“I wanna fight, really whoever the top guys are,” Bader said at the weekend in a conversation with MMAInterviews.tv. “The guys who are out there who don’t really have a fights, there’s Franklin, there’s Tito, There’s Bonnar. Any one of them, it doesn’t matter to me.”
Bonnar names an almost identical list of fighters in a new interview with MMAJunkie today.
““You always like a big name,” Bonnar admits. “I was hinting toward someone like Franklin or Griffin again … or maybe Bader or even Tito Ortiz.”
So, given that they both mentioned each other as potential opponents, is it likely that Bader Vs Bonnar could be next?
On paper it seems like a significant step down for Bader who was undefeated in 12 fights and about to step into the title mix before being beaten by Jon Jones back in February. Meanwhile Bonnar is 2-3 in his last five fights, so it seems a little bit of a stretch for them to be paired together.
If the two men’s next fights are to come from the pool of fighters that they’ve mentioned then to my mind it makes more sense to have Bader Vs Franklin, and Bonnar Vs Ortiz.
With both men clearly ready to fight, hopefully we’ll find out for sure what the UFC has in store for them in the near future.
