UFC 119’s co-main event between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ryan Bader promised a battle of youth vs experience, and in the end it was Bader who came out on top.
The most significant action of the first saw Bader take Nogueira down and land some ferocious ground and pound that seemed to have the Brazilian in trouble.
Nogueira hung in their though and eventually got back to his feet, and began to press the action on the feet in the final stages of the round.
The last two rounds were closer, with Nogueira pressing the action more on the feet and being a little more effective with his strikes, while Bader had some success with takedowns, though Lil Nog managed to stuff a number of them.
In the end Nogueira didn’t do enough during the bout to catch the judges eyes and Bader earned a 30-27 victory from the judges.
It wasn’t a hugely impressive display from Bader, but it takes him to 12-0 with five of those victories coming in the UFC. His reward for that may now be a fight with arguably the most talented young fighter in the UFC, Jon Jones.
Meanwhile Nogueira’s early promise in the UFC with the KO win over Luiz Cane has quickly faded away with somewhat lackluster displays in his last two fights.
