After working his way through the amateur ranks UFC legend Randy Couture’s son Ryan Couture is set to make his professional debut at Strikeforce Challengers 10 next month.
The news comes from MMA Live’s twitter account who received word directly from the fighter himself.
Couture, who trains at his father’s Xtreme Couture gym and has a major in Maths, has so far pieced together a 4-1-1 record as an amateur in the lightweight division.
His last bout before turning pro was a curious affair in which he was choked out just as the bell rang at the end of the second round. Though he appeared to be unconscious the referee ruled that he was still awake when the round ended and so was allowed to continue. He regained his senses and put on a strong showing in the final stanza to earn a draw.
There’s no word on who Couture’s opponent will be on August 13th, or indeed if his bout will be on the televised portion of the card. Regardless there will undoubtedly be the weight of expectation on his shoulders given his father’s decorated career in the sport.
