Both Andrei Arlovski and Sergei Kharitonov were looking to kickstart their MMA careers tonight in their quarter-final match-up of the Strikeforce Heavyweight GP.

Arlovski started brightly with good footwork and quick striking, but Kharitonov kept his defense tight, and remained patient, and when his opportunity came he literally seized it with both hands.

Managing to get inside, Kharitonov went to work with some solid strikes which hurt Arlovski and as he hit reverse gear he was caught by a big right hook which dropped him to the mat.

Kharitonov showed no mercy, quickly closing in on his stunned opponent and landing a couple of thunderous strikes which KO’d the former UFC champion.

It’s a big win for him, but a devasting loss for Arlovski, who now has suffered four consecutive losses in the past two years, including two by clean KO and one by TKO.
