Heavyweight contender Shane Carwin has confirmed he will fight at UFC 131 in Vancouver on June 11th.
According to the former No.1 contender he had originally agreed to fight Roy Nelson at UFC 130, but the UFC then, “went in a different direction,” and matched Nelson with Frank Mir instead.
Carwin states on his own blog that at this moment he’s still in the dark as to who his opponent will be.
The 36 year-old hasn’t fought since coming close but ultimately failing to defeat the then-champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 116 in July. Since then Carwin has underwent back surgery, and only began training again at the turn of the year.
A rematch with Lesnar is rumored to be amongst the potential match-ups for Carwin in June, alongside a possible interim title shot with current No.1 contender Junior Dos Santos.
