At the weekend it emerged that Shane Carwin was named during a court case as having received steroids from a pharmacist who has just been sentenced to four years in jail.

The allegation stems back to 2006, before Carwin was signed with the UFC, but nevertheless it was expected that the fighter, who came close to becoming the heavyweight champion last month in a fight with Brock Lesnar, would make an official statement on the matter this week.

According to a post on his twitter account yesterday however, that is no longer the case.

“I am fighting that fight currently. Being told I cant I however feel like I should,” Carwin responded when asked by a fan whether he would be giving his side of the story.

No doubt there are legal ramifications behind that, but this is the kind of story that’s not going to go away until he does speak out, and many will see his silence as an admission of guilt.
