This weekend’s UFC 117 event is packed with quality fights, none more-so than the heavyweight clash between Junior Dos Santos and Roy Nelson which will establish the division’s next No.1 contender who will go on to fight the winner of Brock Lesnar Vs Cain Velasquez.
Not only that, but according to the UFC’s UK president Marshall Zelaznik the loser of the fight could also be getting lined up with another big name opponent.
“Joe [Silva] has a tendency to match fighters who are coming off losses in order to give them their chance to turn things around,” Zelaznik tells ESPN.co.uk. “So how the Nelson v Dos Santos fight plays out may have a bearing on Shane Carwin.”
It certainly makes sense to do this – in fact we already predicted this would happen in our ‘What’s Next For Shane Carwin’ article immediately after his loss to Lesnar in July.
Zelaznik goes on to state his belief that Carwin will reach the very top of the division again before long.
“Shane Carwin is a man people would love to have a win over on their record. His performance against Brock Lesnar was so good that he only sits one or two fights away from a return to a title shot.”
