Shane Carwin finally has an opponent for his fight at UFC 131 in June.

According to Dana White in a Q&A session earlier today the former heavyweight No.1 contender will take on newcomer Jon Olav Einemo at the event.

The 6ft 6″ Einemo hails from Norway and is a talented BJJ practitioner who’s claim to fame is being the only man to defeat Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu great Roger Gracie at the prestigious ADCC tournament, which the 35 year-old won back in 2003.

Einemo’s MMA record currently stands at 6-1 with his only loss coming to Fabricio Werdum. The catch however is that he hasn’t fought since 2006, so fighting against one of the top contenders in the division in his UFC debut is an extremely tall order.

For Carwin this is a big step down after coming close to defeating Brock Lesnar last year, but it could be an ideal fight to get back to winning ways after a prolonged spell out due to back surgery.

  1. Roger didn’t tap, Einemo won on points. Still, from what I can gather, Einemo was a purple belt at the time… and Mr. Gracie had recently received his black.
