Stipe Miocic successfully defended his heavyweight title for the first time tonight at UFC 203 by knockout after a crazy one round war with Alistair Overeem.

Round One:

The main event heavyweight title fight is underway!

Overeem moves on the outside as they start. Miocic chases him down with his jab firing off. Still lots of movement from Overeem, but then he lands a body kick.

Miocic coming after him and Overeem literally runs away, just narrowly missing an incoming head kick.

Just moments later Overeem blasts him with a single straight left that floors him. Immediately Overeem follows him down and cinches up a guillotine choke, but Miocic gets out of it and powers back to his feet.

Instantly Miocic begins chasing after Overeem again, throwing caution to the wind as he looks to shift the momentum back in his favor.

Miocic with a straight right, backing up the Dutchman. Miocic blasts Overeem with left and a right hands against the cage. Overeem in trouble here. Again Miocic with a big flurry of punches as Overeem tries his best to cover up.

Overeem moves away and Miocic lands again. Now it’s ‘The Reem’s’ turn to go on the offensive, showing he’s still a big threat as he unleashes a body kick and an uppercut.

Overeem jogging away from Miocic now. Kind of a wacky, but highly entertaining fight so far, and it’s ebbing and flowing.

Miocic powers forward and bundles Overeem to the mat off a kick and then begins landing huge hammerfists. Overeem not doing a good job of defending these and as more punches rain down he goes out cold!

That’s it, Miocic has knocked him out and successfully defends his heavyweight title for the first time at 4.27mins of the first round.

That was a bit of a wild one and suprisingly reckless for a title fight, with both men clearly willing to go out on their shield in pursuit of a big finish. Miocic in particular was something of a force of nature in the way that he rebounded from the knockdown and choke attempt to put Overeem back under the cosh.
