To all intents and purposes Scott Coker is essentially the Dana White of Strikeforce, the world’s second largest MMA promotion.

In a new ‘Backstage’ interview with MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani, Coker reflects on Strikeforce has achieved so far, and talks about the future of the company as a new year appears on the horizon.

Perhaps the most interesting thing he has to say comes towards the end of the interview.

“We’re going to announce phase two in about two weeks,” Coker revealed in response to a question about his future plans for Strikeforce.

He wouldn’t be drawn on exactly what phase two consists of, but he did says that, “I think people will be blown away.”

My best guess would be that he’s referring to the heavyweight tournament they are rumored to be planning for 2011, plus the possibility of two pay-per-view events.

Considering that this interview was taped prior to the December 3rd ‘Henderson Vs Babalu’ event we should hopefully be getting an official announcement any day now.
