Strikeforce Champ Gilbert Melendez Set To Fight On Heavyweight GP Card In May

Strikeforce have a little momentum going again now thanks to the buzz surrounding Ronda Rousey’s big win in their last event, and by the looks of things they are going to try to keep that going with their next big show in May.

We already know that May 19th is the date set for the conclusion of the Strikeforce Heavyweight GP featuring Josh Barnett Vs Daniel Cormier, but now lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez has revealed he’s also going to be defending his title on the fight card as well.

Speaking to Melendez stops short of saying who his opponent is going to be, but hints that it won’t be a rematch with Josh Thomson.

Melendez is coming off a unanimous decision win against Jorge Masvidal back in December, his third successful title defense, and that’s left him with few viable opponents left on the Strikeforce roster so it’ll be interesting to see who they come up with.

Check out the full interview with Melendez below.
