Saturday night’s blockbuster ‘Strikeforce: Fedor Vs Henderson’ event has proven to be a ratings success on Showtime with an average of 571,000 viewers tuning into watch the televised main card, producing a 1.7 household rating.
That figure ranks it as the fourth highest rated show in the promotion’s history on Showtime, though still some way short of the No.1 spot which was taken by Fedor’s last fight with Antonio Silva which drew 741,000.
The event also trails behind June’s Overeem Vs Werdum event and Gina Carano’s fight with ‘Cyborg’ Santos back in the summer of 2009.
It would be interesting to know how Zuffa are interpreting the results. Prior to the event it had been rumored that internally they were hoping to break their previous ratings record with this fight, but that’s not proven to be the case.
However the figures do show that fans are still interested in seeing Fedor fight despite the fact that the mystique that surrounded him during his 10-year unbeaten run has now faded.
It’s also the best ratings that Henderson has pulled as a main-eventer, and so may help his case to get a new deal with either Strikeforce or the UFC now that his current contract has ended.
