With Zuffa now being in control of Strikeforce there’s been an amendment to the rules of the promotion’s heavyweight grand-prix which gets underway again with two more quarter-final bouts this coming weekend.

The new rule revolves around what should happen if a fight is declared a draw. Previously a fourth judge would have then declared who should win the bout, but that has now been changed to a ‘sudden death’ round, with the winner of that going forward to the next stage of the competition.

It’s unlikely that there’ll be any need for this since draws are fairly rare in the sport, but if there has to be a way to pick between the fighters then in my opinion this is definitely the best way to go about it and would add more drama to the event while eliminating the risk of a dodgy judge’s decision hampering the tournament at a crucial stage.
