The latest rumor is that the second pair of quarter-finals in Strikeforce’s Heavyweight GP may not go ahead on April 9th as originally planned.
Instead Sherdog.com is now reporting that non-tournament related bouts are now being put together for the date instead.
Amongst them is a potential Nick Diaz Vs Paul Daley title fight along with Gilbert Melendez returning to defend his lightweight title against Japanese star Tatsuya Kawajiri.
While these are undoubtedly fights to look forward to, fans are undoubtedly going to be disappointed to hear that the expected Grand-Prix bouts featuring Alistair Overeem Vs Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett Vs Brett Rogers may be pushed back.
From the start there’s been some concern that delays or injuries could hinder the tournament, and it seems that even at this early stage that is proving to be the case.
The promotion gained real momentum with the first set of quarter-finals earlier in the month, producing record ratings on Showtime as Antonio Silva and Sergei Kharitonov booked their place in the semi-finals, so having to wait more than two months for the next one’s is far from ideal, and could affect the overall cohesion of the tournament.
So far there’s no official announcement from Strikeforce though, so stay tuned for any further developments in this story.
