With tonight’s Strikeforce: Overeem Vs Werdum event drawing to a close the quarter-finals of the heavyweight grand-prix we now have our two semi-final match-ups set.
The first bout will see current Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem take on another Brazilian in the shape of Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva who produced an impressive win over Fedor Emelianenko in his quarter-final match-up.
After Overeem looked far from invincible tonight in a somewhat bizarre encounter with Fabricio Werdum, Silva, who at 6ft 4″ and 264lbs won’t be outsized by ‘Ubereem’, becomes an increasingly signifcant player at the table.
Meanwhile after a dominant display in his Strikeforce debut tonight, Josh Barnett moves on to face Sergei Kharitanov who holds the only clean KO of the tournament so far in his quarter-final bout with Andrei Arlovski.
If all goes well then the semi-finals should take place in the fall, while the final is being rumored to be heading towards an early 2012 date.
Strikeforce Semi-final Pairings:
- Alistair Overeem Vs Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva
- Josh Barnett Vs Sergei Kharitanov
