Strikeforce have targeted September 10th as the date to hold the semi-finals of their heavyweight grand-prix according to sources close to the situation.
The event will see the last four remaining fighters square off with Alistair Overeem taking on Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva, while Josh Barnett meets Sergei Kharitanov.
Prior to this latest development several other fights had been tentatively assigned to this event, including a middleweight title fight between Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza Vs Luke Rockhold and Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal Vs Roger Gracie indicating that this has the potential to be another stacked card for the promotion.
Strikeforce had initially hoped to have the heavyweight tournament completed by the end of the year, but Scott Coker revealed after the culmination of the quarter-finals last month that it’s now more likely that the final will take place in feburary of next year.
An early September date does leave upon the possibility of a December finale however, assuming the two winners emerge unscathed.
