Strikeforce held a media conference call today to promote their end of year Melendez Vs Masvidal event which takes place on December 17th.
On the call were Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, along with Gilbert Melendez, Jorge Masvidal, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos and Hiroko Yamanaka.
Coker said that he’s still “optimistic” that a deal will be struck with Showtime so the promotion can continue into 2012 and beyond.
Meanwhile, current lightweight champion Melendez was talking about his desire to fight in the UFC as soon as possible, though he says that in the mean time Masvidal is a worthy opponent.
Masvidal was also open to the idea of moving to the UFC, but for now his goal is just to fight the top ranked guys, and Melendez fits the bill.
‘Cyborg’ revealed that she is planning to attempt to move down to the 135lb division in the future since there is more work there and more suitable opponents, though she’d like to also be able to compete at 145lbs as well.
Finally, her opponent Yamanaka said she’s not concerned about the fact that all the attention is on Cyborg leading up to this fight and instead is only focused on the actual fight.
